What are the Bibliobus’ purpose and mission?

The Bibliobus service was created in 2020 by CJF. The Bibliobus is a resource centre specialised in supporting educational teams in the fields of linguistic development and early plurilingual education.

The Bibliobus’ mission:

  • Stimulate, encourage, and support the development of early linguistic and plurilingual education in childcare facilities;
  • Enable access to different cultures, languages, and stories through books;
  • Raise awareness of an open and positive attitude towards books and all languages;
  • Provide educational resources to support the implementation of the national reference framework.

How do we collaborate?

  • Advice on books suited to children’s ages;
  • Sharing of good practices and ideas;
  • Introduction to various tools;
  • Support on different projects to implement the focus area « language, communication, and media » and plurilingual education.

The Bibliobus team visits childcare facilities to work with the educational team in to analyse the needs of each facility. The team supports staff in planning projects around books and linguistic development. The projects are carried out on-site within the childcare facilities.

The target audience includes the educational team of all non-formal education childcare facilities taking care of children aged 0-4 years (e.g., crèches, after-school care facilities). The childcare facilities must have their headquarters in Luxembourg.

Who can request support from the Bibliobus?

The target audience is the educational staff of any early childhood care or non-formal education

facility based in Luxembourg and welcoming children aged 0 to 4 (nurseries, daycare centres,

etc.).

Is the service free of charge?

Yes, the service is free.

Does the Bibliobus visit each facility every month?

No, the frequency of visits depends on the needs of each facility.

Do projects take place inside the bus?

No, projects are carried out directly on site, within the care facilities.

Does the Bibliobus team carry out activities with the children (e.g. storytelling)?

No, our main mission is to provide pedagogical support to educational teams in developing linguistic and multilingual education within their facility.

Can I contact the Bibliobus just to borrow books or materials?

No, books and materials can only be borrowed as part of an educational exchange and for the duration of the collaboration.

Does the Bibliobus work like a traditional library?

No, please refer to the previous answer.

Does the Bibliobus offer continuing education or training sessions?

No, however, advice and good practices shared during exchanges can support staff in their pedagogical approach.
